A case of candida parapsilosis periprosthetic joint infection: Case report and literature review

A 76 year old female, with a background history of eczema and iatrogenic Cushing syndrome, received right total knee replacement for her osteoarthritis. In the early post-operative period, small amount discharge was noted from surgical wound. The wound swab culture yielded candida species. It regarded as contamination initially. Half later, she presented subcutaneous abscess around knee. Aspiration confirmed infection Candida parapsilosis. patient treated conservatively fluconazole because had initially refused operative treatment. progressed to formation afterward. two-stage revision arthroplasty cement spacer performed subsequently. addition, we have reviewed literature regarding fungal periprosthetic joint infection.
